About this book
This historical novel was born many years ago while I was careening in a gaudily painted old bus along a narrow cliff-side road in Peru. Far below, the vast Pacific smashed relentlessly on ancient rocks, a scene both mesmerizing and frightening.
The other inhabitants of the bus were Peruvian descendants of the Incas, and the Spaniards who conquered them. Their black-haired children sneaked looks at me, an American with light hair and blue eyes. What was I doing in their bus coming home from market?
My thoughts centered on the collision of two very different cultures, centuries ago. My relatives in Spain assert the Conquest brought enlightened Christianity to the "cruel heathens" of Peru; my Peruvian friends assert that the Spaniards were cruel and greedy conquerors. Who was right?
I first imagined a novel told more honestly by children than by the conquerors themselves. And being an equestrian, this idea evolved to have an honest war-horse tell the story along with the children. He is a very unusual horse who comprehends what he experiences. A magical horse. A fictional horse. This is our Sun Stallion.

""Several days ago I finished reading your epic novel Sun Stallion….WOW! it makes one live amazingly in the life of that brave and talented horse and those historical days he described and lived through… better say “survived” through!! Breath-taking, terrible and cruel on one hand and amazingly realistic and entrancing on the other hand. What a lot of detailed research to make the tale coincide with the historic dates and events!
